Workshop of Luigi Valadier, Ormolu frame with two rows of beading, an oak garland, an ornamental motif of a knotted ribbon at the top and the variant of lapis lazuli or Egyptian rosso antico marble (or porphyry) panels on the inner corners, c. 1770-5, graphite, pen, grey ink, grey, brown, blue and red wash on paper, 255 x 200 mm.
A frame in ormolu, silver and lapis lazuli by Luigi Valadier now in the Art Institute of Chicago shows a remarkable similarity with this drawing (Honour 1971, pp. 208-210; Wardropper 2000, pp. 79-84; González-Palacios 2018, pp. 328-329).
