{"id":1769,"date":"2023-08-07T16:04:05","date_gmt":"2023-08-07T14:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/?post_type=sezione&#038;p=1769"},"modified":"2023-10-13T17:39:19","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T15:39:19","slug":"room-of-the-altarpieces","status":"publish","type":"sezione","link":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/sezione\/room-of-the-altarpieces\/","title":{"rendered":"Room of the Altarpieces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ever since the Pinacoteca opened its doors in 1879, this room has featured large sixteenth- and seventeenth-century altarpieces from the city\u2019s main churches, some which had been destroyed.<br \/>\nOver the years, the collection was augmented by extraordinary examples of Emilian and Romagnolo Counterreformation and Baroque art. The room can be viewed as a map of early paintings, choices, and artistic currents in the city and region. The most noteworthy paintings include the <em>Baptism of Christ<\/em> by Luca Scaletti, from the church of San Giovanni Battista;<em> the Birth of the Virgin<\/em> by Giovanni Battista Bertucci the Younger from the church of Santa Cecilia; and the <em>Madonna and Child with Saints<\/em> by Alessandro Tiarini, from the church of Santa Chiara.<br \/>\nThe <em>Madonna and Child<\/em> <em>with Saints<\/em> by Antonio Liberi, called Antonio di Mazzone, was originally in the church of San Domenico, while Ercole Procaccini\u2019s <em>Coronation of the Virgin<\/em>, an early example of Counterreformation painting, comes from the church of San Giovanni Battista dei Celestini in Bologna.
