The motif of the Christ Child and the young Saint John the Baptist embracing, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci\u2019s original prototypes, was immensely popular, and its emotional charge is also likely to have been one of the reasons why this model so beloved of popular devotion enjoyed such widespread dissemination.
