On the outer leaves: Two angels<\/em><\/p>\n

This very fine triptych is the product of a joint venture between a sculptor in the workshop of Baldassarre degli Embriachi (probably Giovanni di Jacopo), and a painter in the workshop of Rossello di Jacopo Franchi. Its small size suggests that it was intended for private devotion, whilst its exquisite quality argues in favour of it having been the property of a figure of considerable standing.<\/p>\n

It entered the Pinacoteca from the convent of Santa Cristina in 1867, following the dissolution of religious houses after the Unification of Italy, but its original destination probably lay elsewhere.
