{"id":2876,"date":"2024-03-21T22:00:11","date_gmt":"2024-03-21T21:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/?post_type=opera&#038;p=2876"},"modified":"2024-10-17T15:35:45","modified_gmt":"2024-10-17T13:35:45","slug":"tobias-and-the-angel","status":"publish","type":"opera","link":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/opera\/tobias-and-the-angel\/","title":{"rendered":"Tobias and the Angel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paired with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/opera\/marco-palmezzano-a-sainted-bishop\/\">A Sainted Bishop<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/opera\/marco-palmezzano-st-jerome\/\">St. Jerome<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/opera\/marco-palmezzano-st-augustine\/\">St. Augustine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These four panels are probably fragments of an altarpiece of whose commissioning we know nothing and for which we have no early records. They were already separated when Gian Marcello Oretti of Bologna saw them in the church of Sant\u2019Agostino in Faenza in 1777.<\/p>\n<p>The two smaller panels depict a Sainted Bishop, possibly St. Ambrose, and St. Jerome in a cardinal\u2019s garb reading the Vulgate, his translation of the Bible into Latin. The two larger panels depict St. Augustine with a bishop\u2019s garb over his black habit, and the Archangel Raphael with Tobias. The Bible tells us that young Tobias set out on a long journey in the company of a mysterious individual who helped him to overcome a number of difficulties. At the end of the tale, the individual proved to be the Archangel Raphael who, in popular credence, had become by definition the \u201cguardian angel\u201d, i.e. God\u2019s intermediary who accompanies and guides men through life\u2019s various phases and in times of trouble.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":2765,"template":"","tag-opera":[],"tecnica":[58],"class_list":["post-2876","opera","type-opera","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tecnica-oil-on-wood"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/opera\/2876","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/opera"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/opera"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/opera\/2876\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/2765"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2876"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"tag-opera","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tag-opera?post=2876"},{"taxonomy":"tecnica","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pinacotecafaenza.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tecnica?post=2876"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
