As the headsman leaves the place of martyrdom with his axe slung over his shoulder, two men raise Eutropius\u2019s body while a third gathers up his cope and crosier. The saint\u2019s severed head lies on the ground in the foreground. The picture was long attributed to Michele Manzoni, but in 1957 Roberto Longhi identified it as being by the hand of Biagio Manzoni, a painter of Faenza influenced by Caravaggio\u2019s work in Rome.
